Parsons has established the Post Adoption Resource Center (PARC) to provide post adoption services for families in Albany, Columbia, Fulton, Greene, Montgomery, Rensselaer, Saratoga, Schenectady, Warren and Washington counties who have adopted or are in the process of adopting. Families can access services such as respite and parent support groups, which includes peer groups and child care for families  attending the support groups.
The goals of the support groups are to help families to:
Understand new family dynamics.
Navigate the social services systems.
Sort out feelings.
Feel supported in their efforts to provide permanency to children.
Program staff work directly with adoptive families with a focus on pre-adoptive and adoption issues. The staff are trained professionals who understand that, at any given time following placement, parents may need assistance in understanding and help in managing their children's crises and challenges.
The staff work together with the families and provide information and referral to appropriate providers within the community, parents and peer support groups, and limited case planning services.

Helpline -

518.426.2888 Call-in is available by leaving a message. If your call is related to a crisis, call Mobile Crisis at 911, or the police.

Parent Support Groups

The group meets regularly and does not have a preplanned topic, but rather develops its own topic focus by the parent-driven discussion. The leaders lend their expertise to each topic and will often bring in useful materials based on previous discussions. This practice aids in clarifying information offered and can be used as a reference source for parents.

Youth Peer Group/Child Care

The focus of the youth peer group is on the development and enhancement of social skills and to aid in increasing self-esteem. Each week, group leaders plan an activity, which can range from a craft project to a life skills project.

Respite

Parsons can provide respite directly or indirectly.  Respite can occur in the community or in the home.

Network

Parsons is aware of a network of adoptive-sensitive practitioners, agencies, and volunteers in the region that may provide effective services to children and families who have adopted.

Referrals
