Insurance Benefits

Medical/Health Insurance

Full and part-time employees who work at least 20 hours per week may enroll in the medical plan following 30 days of employment. The medical plan is provided by Empire Blue Cross, and employees have a choice of a PPO or EPO model, www.empireblue.com. Coverage is effective the first of the month following 30 days of employment. Otherwise, enrollment may take place during the open enrollment period to be effective July 1 of the next year or within 30 days of a family status change. Parsons' pays 75 percent of the total EPO premium for full-time employees and 62.5 percent of the EPO premium for part-time employees for either individual, two-person, or family coverage. Employee contributions may be on a pretax basis if Parsons contributes to the cost of health coverage.

Dental Insurance

Dental insurance is available to benefit-eligible staff through Guardian. Coverage is effective the first of the month following 30 days of employment. Staff may elect coverage the first of the month following 30 days of employment or during the annual open enrollment period.

Life Insurance

Staff hired prior to 4/1/95 are covered as of the date of hire with life insurance equal to two times their annual salary, and those hired after 4/1/95 have a benefit of one time their annual salary. Accidental death and dismemberment (AD&D) insurance is also provided at two times the annual salary. Eligibility is the first of the month following date of hire.

Parsons pays the full cost of these benefits. However, Parsons is required by law to tax employees on the imputed value of life insurance coverage that exceeds $50,000. This cost is generally minimal.

Long Term Disability Insurance (LTD)

An LTD policy covers approximately 60 percent of the annual staff salary for an illness or disability exceeding six month's duration. Parsons pays the full cost of this benefit.

Supplemental Short Term Disability

A voluntary supplemental short term disability policy is available to staff at a low cost through AFLAC. This coverage can help replace part of your income if you cannot work for an extended time, up to six months, due to illness. This program is available to all full or part-time benefited employees at the date of hire or during the annual open enrollment period.

Voluntary Life

A voluntary term life insurance plan is available through First Reliance Standard, http://www.reliancestandard.com/. This program is available to full or part-time benefited employees at the date of hire or during the annual open enrollment period. The maximum insurance is five times the annual salary to a maximum of $120,000 for a staff member and 50 percent of the employee's amount for the spouse.
.

Flexible Reimbursement Accounts

Flex reimbursement accounts are available at Parsons. These plans allow staff to set aside pretaxed dollars every paycheck for eligible medical expenses that are not reimbursed by the medical plan, as well as dependent care expenses that allow a staff member or his/her spouse to work. Staff are eligible the first of the month following 30 days of employment and annually at the open enrollment period to be effective January 1 of the next year.
